Moment of Truth

Prologue: Drop of Life is a category of blogs which carry small Anecdotes or very short story that carries the reflection of life in every drop.

"Life goes on like a tape recorder, every night the rewind button is pressed and the tape recorder plays the same song yet again till the night when it reaches the end and the rewind button is pressed", thought Sameer drinking his cup of coffee in the morning. Not sure if he has just missed the purpose of life. He began wondering about if he has been caught in a endless circle and which gets him to the same point again and again. A sudden blankness surrounded him. Getting up in the morning going to work and staying back late as there was nothing better to do and then coming home to retire on the bed. If this is the purpose of life then there is no interest in it or it should be that he is not seeing things the right way. The phone rang and disturbed his thoughts… He picked up the call…said "yes" the voice on the other end spoke something which we do not know, but the expression on his face was irritation. He said "No I am not interested in any of that offer…" and cut the phone in extreme frustration.

The day continued the same way as any other day. He started speaking to the computers and he was very well known for his extreme talent for understanding the problems of the computers and solving them. He should have forgotten interacting with humans and whenever he did the only solution he had to the problems of the human was to restart their life. The thought he had over the cup of coffee today was not allowing him to concentrate. He was just thinking of the amount of stress that is building in his daily life, driving through the traffic for more than an hour which used to take ten minutes few years back and waiting for long time in the restaurants to get a good meal. Crowd everywhere and all of a sudden everyone around him looked very selfish and felt a sudden pain of competing for happiness which seemed to be scarce. This did not make him stay normal but added a lot to his frustration. He thought life is growing more uninteresting around him. The rest of the day was spent in frustration… so he decided to break his normal routine and left office early. He waded through that traffic which did not seem to have any special consideration to his state of frustration.

Sameer just dropped into a restaurant to have his dinner earlier. As usual the restaurant was crowded and he had to wait for sometime. The restaurant was in the first floor of the building and he got a seat near the window which was covered with screen of yellow and white checks. He ordered for his food to the waiter. A small girl should be five years of age came with her parents to the table before him. Sameer’s was curious looking at her. She slowly climbed over the chair and stood over it and looked all around the restaurant. As she looked around she was smiling. She started to go through the hotel menu with her parents and wanted to have an ice cream. Her father patiently read out each of the falvors of the ice cream listed in the menu, she was feeling excited every time her father read out a new entry. She said, "I wan Choklate ice kreem". Her father said, "Thats good choice!". Sameer already felt he was never so excited looking at the menu or seldom realised the restaurant served ice cream. When her father ordered the chocalate ice cream to the waiter, she laughed uncontrollably…! She once again looked around the restaurant with a huge smile this time. For a moment her eyes and smile should have met Sameer. She then looked to her right to find the yellow screen before the window and starred at it. She then turned to her father and pointed him to the screen. Her father stood up and slided the window screen to the right. Her face lit up seeing the street out side. Sameer looked out and saw the whole street had been lit up in glittering yellow lights and the shops had their best items kept outside to attract customers. There were people walking on the street happily. The honking of a car disturbed Sameer’s thought. He saw the street had a heavy traffic. The one which he hated. He thought he did not see the traffic for so long, he had been looking at all those beautiful things around. The uncontrollable laughter of the kid brought Sameer’s attention back to her.

She was now having her cup of ice cream and laughing looking at Sameer. He felt it was the moment of truth. He realized "It is not about finding happiness, but being happy!" Now he smiled back to the kid.
